Completion of Boselli Pier
Client: Autorità Portuale di Savona
Location: Port of Savona, Italy
The works in question include the completion of Darsena Alti fondali (Deep Draft Dock) of the Port of Savona. The following works were carried out:
- Extension of Boselli quay up to a total length of 128.64 m, using No.4 reinforced concrete cellular caissons with dimension 32.06 x 11.10 x 15.50 m, placed on a levelled rubble foundation of crushed 50÷80 mm quarry stones with a foundation level of –15.00 m below mean sea level
- Closure of the quay head for 130 m using No. 3 cellular caissons dimension 24.62 x 12.09 x 16.00 m, with partially reflecting placed at –15.00 m below mean sea level. The caissons were filled with sand (landward cells) and partially filled with lean concrete (central and seaward rows), with communication holes to reduce the impact of undertow currents
- Completion of the deep water side N-W quay for a length of 385.82 m, with No. 12 reinforced concrete cellular caissons with partially reflecting wall placed at –18.00 below mean sea level, dimension 32.06 x 12.09 x 19.00 m filled as described for the quay head
- Concrete blocks connecting the existing N-W quay from –15.00 m below mean sea level to –18.00 m below mean sea level
- Concrete superstructure up to +2.50 m above mean including crane beams finishes, and service distribution lines
- Construction of an ~ 36,000 sqm reclamation behind the caissons with paving and primary urbanization works.
