Port of Bari - Construction of Quay and aprons in the western dock

Client: Autorità Portuale di Bari
Location: Port of Bari, Italy

The tender covers the construction of quays and aprons in the Western Dock of the Port of Bari for a total length of 805.40 m. The new quays consist of No. 25 reinforced concrete 13.50 m high and 11.00 m wide cellular caissons, with a 29,815 m long base slab and a 9.00 m body, and of No.1 11.77 m long, 9.00 m wide, and 10.20 m high caisson. The caisson is placed at – 12.60 m, while the top of quay wall has a +2.00 elevation above sea level.

Dry quarry and demolition materials were used to fill up the area between the two new quays – one obtained out of the widening of the protection pier and the other encasing the old sea wall – up to +0.50 elevation above sea level.

Further, a walkway called “Passeggiata di Ponente” was built behind the splash wall of the old breakwater.

The project also featured sea bottom excavations over a 38,000 sqm surface, to allow access to the new piers up to a –12.00 m draft. The dredged sea bottom basically features chalk deposits and a layer of sediments. To complete the works, the aprons were paved and fixtures along the quayed arm installed.
