Construction of new Italia jetty parallel to Calata Alto Fondale (Deep Draft Quay)
Client: Autorità Portuale di Livorno
Location: Port of Livorno, Italy
The works in question feature all works required for the construction of the new Italia jetty in the Port of Livorno. Reinforced concrete cellular caissons were employed to form the outside perimeter of the jetty, for a total length of approx 950 m.
At the level of Darsena dei Calafati quay and opposite to Montano Shipyards that are located in shallow waters, the connection with the new jetty was made with sheetpiles at both sides of the root of the pier itself, and with a ramp connecting the apron of the new jetty (+2.5 m elevation) with the (~ +2.0) ground zero of Montano Shipyards.
The Montano Shipyards area will be used for road connection to/from Italia jetty. The quay crane rails are directly supported by the caissons, while the track for the internal rail of the solid bulk ship unloader features a reinforced concrete beam and large sized foundation piles. Rubber fenders and cast iron bollards were used for ship mooring and berthing. The reclamation supporting the apron was made of quarry material up to +0.50 m . The apron was paved with asphalt on top of a base of granular mix foundation layer.
