Umiray Angat Tunnel
Location: Philippines
Grandi Lavori Fincosit constructed this complex underground project in the Philippines, in a mountainous area northward of Manila, hard to be reached and across very difficult terrain. This project consisted of a 13 km diversion tunnel having a diameter of 4.88 meters and excavated by TBM. This project was the first of its kind ever realized in the Philippines. The execution of this project has met with many difficulties: notwithstanding extremely adverse weather conditions and unexpected geological conditions which required excavation by hand in various sections, as well as water leakages exceeding 800 litres per second. The tunnel was excavated and lined at a monthly average of 540 meters, with a daily peak exceeding 60 meters.
